Spotlight: Singapore Youth Festival (SYF) 2026
In April, student-performers from the English Drama CCA participated in the Singapore Youth Festival (SYF) Arts Presentation. After months of intensive workshops and rehearsals, our student-performers delivered a captivating performance that resonated with the audience and adjudicators alike.
The SYF stage can be a daunting place to perform. Yet our students captivated the audience with unwavering confidence and poise. Their ability to embody complex characters and maintain stage presence under pressure was a testament to their hard work and the collaborative spirit of the CCA. The highlight of the performance was certainly seeing the student-performers supporting and complementing one another on and off the stage.
Why Join English Drama?
Drama is more than just acting; it is a holistic journey of self-discovery. Student-performers in our CCA gain invaluable life skills that extend far beyond the theater:
-
Boosted Self-Confidence: Standing in front of an audience helps CCA members find their voice and overcome inferiority such as public speaking and stage fright.
-
Effective Communication: CCA members learn the nuances of verbal and non-verbal communication, improving their public speaking and articulation.
-
Collaboration & Teamwork: Production is a massive puzzle. Whether as an actor or a crew member, CCA members learn the importance of responsibility, teamwork and resilience as they work toward a shared vision and goal.
-
Empathy and Critical Thinking: By stepping into the shoes of different characters, student-performers develop a better and deeper understanding of diverse perspectives and regulating human emotions.
-
Creative Problem Solving: From improvising a missed line to managing stage props, drama inculcates in student-performers the importance of adaptability to think and stay calm under pressure.
